European Commissioner for Transport hops on a CHIC bus

In a day visit to London the EU Transport Commissioner, Siim Kallas, used all modes of transport – plane, train, tube, bus and even a bike! He was in town to explore local pioneering practices in sustainable and smart city planning. The Vice-President visited an air quality monitoring station at Baker Street tube station before taking a ride on one of London’s CHIC buses!

While in London, Vice-President Kallas met Peter Hendy, Commissioner of Transport for London (TfL) and other TfL representatives and discussed congestion charging, smart ticketing and contingency planning for the Olympic Games in 2012. He later met with London Mayor Boris Johnson and his team to get an insight into cycling schemes and road space management.
